Bahraini Mixed Spices (Bizar)

Bahraini Bizar is a complex, aromatic spice blend that serves as the culinary backbone of Bahraini and Gulf cuisine. Unlike singular spices, Bizar is a sophisticated composition—often featuring coriander, cumin, black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, turmeric, and dried lime (loomi). In the kitchen, it acts as a foundational flavor enhancer, providing a balanced profile that is simultaneously pungent, earthy, and slightly citrusy. From an Ayurvedic perspective, Bizar is categorized as a warming, digestive-stimulating blend. Its composition is designed to kindle the digestive fire (Agni) and counteract the heaviness of meats or legumes often found in traditional Gulf dishes. Because it contains a variety of pungent and aromatic spices, it is highly effective at clearing channels and supporting the metabolic transformation of food.
