Saindhava Salt (Saindhava Lavana)
Saindhava salt is considered the most superior of all salts in Ayurvedic culinary tradition. Unlike common sea salt, it is prized for its cooling nature and its unique ability to balance all three doshas. It is a crystalline mineral salt, typically mined from ancient sea beds, and is valued in the kitchen for its mild, clean flavor and its capacity to enhance the natural taste of ingredients without overpowering them. In the context of daily diet, Saindhava is regarded as a digestive aid that supports the assimilation of nutrients. It is frequently used in the preparation of light, nourishing foods like peya (gruel) and soups, as it is believed to be non-burning and gentle on the digestive tract. Its inclusion in a meal is thought to improve the palatability and digestibility of the food, making it a staple in both healthy and convalescent diets.
