Drakshadi Kashaya (Grape Decoction) (Drakshadi Kashaya)
A cooling, nourishing decoction of dried grapes designed to pacify Pitta and gently support healthy elimination.
Drakshadi Kashaya is a traditional, cooling decoction centered on the nourishing properties of dried grapes (raisins). In Ayurvedic practice, it is revered for its ability to pacify Pitta dosha while providing gentle, lubricating support to the digestive tract. By balancing the heat of the summer (Grishma) and early autumn (Sharad) seasons, this preparation acts as a mild, natural laxative that helps clear excess heat and dryness from the system. This recipe focuses on the classical application of Draksha (grapes) as a primary ingredient, often paired with mild digestive spices to ensure the decoction is easily assimilated. It is particularly useful for those experiencing pitta-related digestive discomfort, such as mild constipation or internal heat, and serves as a foundational tonic for restoring balance to the Rasa and Rakta dhatus.

Ingredients
- Dried Grapes (Raisins) — 0.5 cup
- Filtered Water — 2 cup
- Raw Honey — 1 tsp
Method
- 1. Soak the dried grapes in 2 cups of water for at least 30 minutes to soften them. (Tip: Soaking improves the extraction of the cooling properties.)
- 2. Crush the soaked grapes slightly and place them in a pot with the soaking water. (Tip: Crushing helps release the essence into the decoction.)
- 3. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the liquid is reduced to approximately one-fourth of the original volume. (Tip: A slow simmer is preferred to preserve the delicate cooling qualities.)
- 4. Strain the liquid into a cup and allow it to cool to a warm, drinkable temperature (below 40°C). (Tip: Ensure the liquid is not boiling hot before adding honey.)
- 5. Stir in a small amount of honey if desired and consume immediately. (Tip: Honey acts as a catalyst for the herbs.)
