Guduchi Giloy Kashaya (Guduchi Kashaya)
A traditional, potent decoction of Guduchi stems used to support immune resilience and balance Pitta and Kapha doshas.
Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), known in the Charaka Samhita as 'Avyatha' (the one that removes suffering), is a cornerstone of Ayurvedic herbalism. This Kashaya is a traditional decoction prepared by simmering the woody stems of the plant until the water reduces, concentrating the active essence of the herb. It is highly regarded for its ability to support the body's natural resilience and maintain internal balance during seasonal transitions. In the context of Sharad (autumn) and Grishma (summer), when Pitta dosha is prone to accumulation or aggravation due to heat, this cooling and detoxifying decoction serves as a traditional support. It is distinct from simple herbal teas, as the decoction process extracts the deeper, therapeutic properties of the woody stem, making it a potent preparation for those seeking to maintain systemic harmony.

Ingredients
- Dried Guduchi Stems — 20 g
- Filtered Water — 320 ml
- Raw Honey — 1 tsp
Method
- 1. Crush the dried Guduchi stems lightly using a mortar and pestle to expose the inner fibers. (Tip: Crushing increases the surface area for better extraction.)
- 2. Combine 20g of crushed Guduchi stems with 320ml of water in a stainless steel pot. (Tip: Use a non-reactive vessel.)
- 3. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer until the water reduces to approximately 80-100ml. (Tip: The reduction process is essential to concentrate the medicinal qualities.)
- 4. Strain the decoction through a fine-mesh sieve into a cup. (Tip: Discard the used stems.)
- 5. Allow the liquid to cool to a warm, drinkable temperature (below 40°C) before adding any optional honey. (Tip: This preserves the integrity of the honey.)
